Are You Taking Care of Yourself?

How are you feeling in your body?  Close your eyes for a moment and really check in.

Do you feel any discomfort or tension?  Is there any part of you that is not at ease?

Take a deep breath and send your love and gratitude to the dis-ease that you are feeling.  Your discomfort is showing you where your work is, where you need to start caring for yourself.  It is a shimmering light beckoning you into your highest self.  It is time to heed the call.

Where to Begin?

There is much work to be done and it can be overwhelming to know where to begin.  Sometimes it can be hard asking for help, but doing it alone is even more difficult.

Have you had a recent diagnosis that scares you?  Perhaps your cholesterol is starting to creep up.  Maybe your doctor told you that you are pre-diabetic or that you are showing signs of metabolic disorder.  Did you get scary news about your thyroid?

Do you have a family history of cancer, diabetes, heart disease or stroke?  Have you witnessed someone you love go through painful, invasive procedures?  Are you terrified of the thought of enduring them yourself?

Women and Heart Disease

Despite the fact that heart disease is more common in men than women, it is the number one killer among women in the United States (CDC,2019).  Why?  Because the symptoms for heart attack in women are much different than they are in men.  Some women may experience no symptoms at all, while others who experience sensations of heart burn, lethargy and shortness of breath may dismiss the symptoms or push through them.

Did you know that low cholesterol is actually more dangerous for women than high cholesterol?  In fact numerous studies show that women with high cholesterol actually live longer! (Dr. Mary Enig and Sally Fallon, "Eat Fat, Lose Fat")

Fats and Breast Cancer

The largest study ever done on women, known as the Nurse's Health Study done in 1987 showed that women who ate more fat, particularly saturated fat, were less likely to get breast cancer.  (Nina Teicholz, "The Big Fat Surprise")

Stress has an enormous impact on our health.  Heightened stress can increase your risk of anxiety, depression, digestive problems, heart disease, headaches and some research suggests it may increase your risk of certain forms of cancer.

Chronic Stress and Disease

While many factors play a role in the development of these diseases, your food choices and stress management are key players.  Many things in life are wildly out of your control, but your diet and lifestyle are ultimately the choices that you make every single day.

My approach with Owl's Eye Wellness is to teach you how to take good care of yourself.  I want you to feel empowered to make better choices for yourself, not because you feel like you should or need to but because you really want to nurture yourself as a good mother would.  You deserve the same loving care and attention that you so easily give to others.
